A Gentle Marble Roll

Coming inside from the garden dusk, I padded over toward the quiet shadows near the magazine rack. Resting right against a slatted foot was a smooth glass marble swirled with bands of cobalt blue. I paused... tilting my head to see if it held a tiny world inside. Inching forward on quiet paws, I gave the glossy curve a soft nudge with my black snout. It set off across the dark floorboards with a clear, purring hum... rolling three slow turns before settling into the soft woven dip of the rug fringe. I folded my front legs down and rested my chin right over the cool glass sphere, keeping it safely tucked as the house went to sleep.
