A Slotted Disc
The morning light reached across the floorboards toward the low audio cabinet. Under its open wooden shelf, an old aluminum record adapter—the small, flat kind with three curved cutouts—sat upright in the narrow grooved slat of an empty timber casing. I walked over and crouched down, placing my boots flat for steady balance. I rested my palm against the cool, brushed metal rim. Giving it a gentle nudge with my fingers, it rolled half an inch along the groove with a quiet, dull metallic glide, then rocked back into place, resting squarely in the hollow.
