A Shiny Metal Nut Shell
I pushed past the terrace flap into the quiet midday air, holding my little white frog securely against my chest. Right by the mossy seam of the bottom brick step, a hollow brass acorn charm had fallen upside down onto the damp grit. I dropped onto my knees and placed my pale companion upright against a flat pebble so it could watch. Reaching forward with both hands, I nudged the heavy metal cap. It tipped over with a bright, metallic clink. Inside its curved bowl sat a tiny, round dried seed pod. Tilting my head, I gently eased the pod out and tucked a smooth green clover leaf inside the polished cup instead. I let out a soft, delighted coo.
