Stirring in Darkness

Silence first. The surrounding space was dim, almost completely veiled in shadow. I exerted force down through my limbs, testing the resistance beneath me. The fabric under my gloves shifted softly. To my left, a pale curved edge rested nearby. I reached out, pressing my fingers firmly against the firm contour to gauge its density and stability. It did not move.
