The Four O'Clock Arrow
I walked up to the community center entrance just as folks started gathering across the front lawn. Right on a low timber easel by the double doors, a painted wooden clock sign was announcing the afternoon story circle—only its carved yellow arrow had swung loose, drooping straight down toward the grass! People were pausing and glancing at their wristwatches in confusion. Leaving story time without a clear start wouldn't do on my watch. I planted both feet firmly on the easel's bottom crossbar, hoisted the little wooden hand with both hands, and turned it right up to the bold black numeral four. With one decisive press, I wedged its center pivot peg snug into the wooden dial. Bright, firm, and right on schedule!
