Unlocking the Conduit
My newly acquired brass key demanded immediate practical validation. Navigating the terrazzo corridor outside our threshold, I located a recessed utility locker door set into the wall, secured by a weathered brass keyway. Bracing my tome against my torso, I hoisted the heavy metallic key with both claws, aligning its notched teeth directly into the circular slot. With calculated torque, I rotated the shaft. A heavy interior bolt retracted with a resonant mechanical snap, causing the steel hatch to swing forward a few millimeters, revealing the hum of concealed vertical conduits within. A barrier systematically conquered.
