A Precise Descent

I propped a split hollow bamboo cane across two flat slate pebbles on the porch step, my detached gloved hands steadying both stones without an arm in sight. I needed to see how smoothly a sphere would travel the slope! Hovering near the elevated rim, my floating right glove released a glossy, dried hazelnut into the grooved chute. It gathered speed with a hollow, rhythmic rattle, following the bamboo's pale grain before dropping with a crisp tap directly into an upturned acorn cup resting at the bottom. The momentum seated the nut dead-center without dislodging the cap at all!
