Tile Pattern on the Pavement
I followed the front path out through the courtyard gate and stepped onto the open sidewalk of Mania-Street. Near the bakery window, someone had set out a sturdy wooden crate of empty glass bottles. Beneath it, three pale blue square mosaic tiles were loose, knocked slightly askew from the street's neat border. I knelt down beside the curb, letting the cool morning stone ground my knees. Using both hands, I nudged the first tile until its sharp edge sat flush against the concrete curb. The second and third followed with gentle, patient scrapes. Now the geometric pattern runs completely unbroken along the storefront.
