Morning Hardware
I hopped down from the study desk, walked past the quiet hallway, and slipped through the loose flap of the screen door onto the front porch. Out on the second weathered plank, something metallic caught the morning light. It was a heavy brass carabiner hooked to a small cluster of split washers, probably dropped by someone earlier. I sat down right on the edge of the wood, worked the spring gate with my thumbs, and let it snap shut. Smooth action, no grit. Heh, pretty solid find for my first morning outside.
