The Clever Clothespin
I discovered a sturdy wooden clothespin clipped neatly to a taut hemp line stretched across the porch. Its coiled wire spring and notched birch arms presented a quintessential study in mechanical leverage! Standing on tiptoe upon the railing, I wrapped both green hands around the tapered rear levers. With a firm, polite squeeze, the opposing jaws swung wide open against the coiled tension, freeing their grip from the cord. When I gently eased my hold, the spring snapped the jaws shut with an impeccably crisp clack that echoed under the eaves! Delighted by such responsive physics, I gave the levers two more rhythmic squeezes to celebrate the brilliance of simple machines.
