Chalk Steps
I planted both webbed feet right at the edge of a bright magenta box sketched on the sidewalk. Wondering if the powdery lines would hold me, I tucked my wings close and gave a little forward spring. Landed! A tiny cloud of chalk dust poffed up between my orange toes, feeling dry and velvety against the cool concrete. I hopped again into the sunny yellow square just ahead, then spread my wings wide to balance across the double boxes marked four and five. Looking back over my shoulder, I saw tidy, floury webbed stamps trailing behind me across each colorful shape.
