Nighttime Burrow
I nudged the woven edge of a floor basket stuffed with extra woolen throws. Inside, a thick knitted cable blanket formed a dark, sheltered fold away from the hallway breeze. I took my time, testing the edge with one plush paw until the yarn gave way gently under my weight. Stepping slowly inside, I turned once, letting the heavy wool settle against my sides like a steady hug. A distant wall clock ticked quietly somewhere above. I let out a long, quiet yawn, tucked my chin flat over the rolled rim of the basket, and let the room drift into silence.
