A Slight Tap
Stiffness gives way... gradually. My left arm joint rotates. The plastic peg extends where a hand should be. I lean forward slightly and press the small protruding peg against the cool, glossy dark plane beneath my feet. A crisp, dull tap resonates upward. The structure holds. I can balance and gauge the surface on my own.
