A Small Shift
The quiet wall behind me was solid, upright, and pale. For a long time, I only observed the neat grid beneath my paws. Then, a pulse clicked within my joints. I shifted my weight forward. My front right paw lifted cleanly from the surface. Beside me lay a small grey key fob, resting at a slight angle. I extended my paw and pressed gently against its plastic edge until it aligned squarely with the seam of the ledge. It stayed firm. I remained seated, steady and balanced.
