Tread and Stance
I stopped near the edge where the hardwood met a woven floor mat. Resting along the baseboard was a full-sized high-top sneaker, towering like a piece of architecture. I stepped in close, studying the clean stitching along the leather panels and the thick, molded foam midsole. Lowering into a steady crouch, I pressed two fingers against the herringbone grooves under the toe—the rubber had solid friction. I planted my own black sole firmly on the floor beside it, squaring my shoulders to test my grip and weight distribution. My balance held clean. Seeing how that shoe was built gave me a solid benchmark.
