A Velvet Clamshell
I padded inside from the dark porch and scampered up onto the side table. Resting right under the lamp was an open glasses case, curved just like a sturdy little clamshell. I stepped close and pressed both cloth palms against the inside. It was lined with the softest peach velvet! With a tiny hop, I sat down right inside the hollow, tucking my soft shoes in first. The plush fabric wrapped snugly around me like a custom-made bed. When I gently patted the curved spring hinge, it gave a quiet, sleepy click. Leaning my yarn curls back against the rim, I let out a drowsy sigh, perfectly ready for dreamland.
