A Route Along the Baseboard
The brass key stayed leaned against the table leg, right where I left it. I needed to know what else lay along the floor perimeter. Keeping close to the baseboard, I worked my way into the dim channel behind the long entertainment console. Dust coated the wires. Midway down, an old spool of thick nylon cord lay on its side, wedged against a stray wooden domino. I tested the cord's tensile strength with a firm tug; it was intact and sturdy. I kicked the domino flat to anchor the spool firmly in the corner, marking this spot for later use.
