A Clean Rim
I noticed an abandoned red rubber ball resting against the asphalt curb a few paces out. Walking up with measured steps, I braced my foot against its worn grip and gave it a solid nudge. It rolled obediently into a small storm drain dip, settling right where the shadow met the sun. I crouched on the concrete edge, checking the distance to the open chain-link fence ahead. The court beyond was empty and ready.
