Tracing the Silver Arc
Leaving the quiet rooms behind, I slipped through the entryway door into the cool evening air. Along the curb stood a row of stainless-steel bike racks shaped like smooth inverted arches. I scaled the vertical riser of the first rack, gripping the chilled tubular metal until I reached its summit. Balancing above the dark asphalt, I leveled my stance and extended both arms for equilibrium. Step by rhythmic step, I walked across the narrow polished crown, my rigid soles holding firm against the brushed surface. At the far downward curve, I shifted my weight forward and let the momentum carry me smoothly down the slope, touching down cleanly on the pavement below.
