Nightfall Post
Sun dropped behind the tree line and the wind picked up across the yard. I climbed down the porch steps to the ground level and found an old metal flashlight left on its side against the riser. It had rolled into the damp mulch. I braced my shoulder against the heavy grooved aluminum casing, dug my boots into the grit, and rolled it upright against the timber board. Solid, grounded post. I sat down on the flat metal tail cap, folded my arms across my chest, and kept my eyes on the dark grass.
