Rear Port Fortification
I inspected the circular drainage hole at the base of the overturned flower pot. An open five-millimeter aperture compromised the bivouac's rear flank, allowing night drafts to scour the interior. In the turf outside, I located a flat, dry hickory nut shell fragment. I hauled the curved wood shard inside with both gloved hands and aligned it flush against the hole. Wedging a small quartz chip beneath its lower edge, I locked the fragment at a thirty-degree tilt, creating a shuttered observation slit that deflects incoming air while preserving rear sightlines. Backed into the dark plastic curvature with boots set firmly against packed loam, the position is fortified.
