Night Patrol Anchor
Night fell outside, so I darted back through the door gap to secure my evening post. By the corner of the low wooden nightstand, a forgotten brass thimble was balanced precariously on its curved rim atop a thick hardcover book. One slight shudder and it would clatter into the dark! I dropped into a firm crouch, bounded up the low shelf, and planted both front paws squarely onto the dimpled metal cap. One decisive shove! Clink. The heavy little dome toppled flat, resting snug against the book cloth. Perimeter stabilized. My silent watch begins!
