A Warm Morning Perch
I walked quietly across the counter toward the morning mug. A heavy ceramic cup rested upon a round cork coaster, sending up a thin, fragrant curl of steam. I paused first, planting both plush feet firmly against the cool surface to check my footing. The roasted coffee scent was deep and comforting. Taking slow, measured steps, I reached the coaster's edge and rested both paws against the rough cork rim. With steady pressure, I nudged it an inch inward, ensuring the cup sat safely away from the border. Then I leaned softly against the warm clay, letting the quiet heat settle into my fur.
