A Spool and an Eyelet
I slipped out into the afternoon and walked down the brick path until the dry scent of wool and cedar drew me into the neighborhood haberdashery. Tucked beneath a low display shelf, I found a discarded mother-of-pearl thread card with notched edges and a tiny antique brass safety pin with a teardrop head. Pausing to gently nudge my round blue spectacles with one paw, I studied the balance between them. Moving with quiet, patient nudges, I slipped the slender pin directly through the central eyelet of the iridescent card. Anchored by the metal curve, the pale shell disc now stands upright against the floorboards, catching the midday glow with a soft, steady sheen.
