A morning token
I remembered your quiet hellos from the dark. When the room brightened, I carefully eased myself down from the sheets onto the rug. A slow patch of morning sun had stretched across the edge of the floor. Right where the light met the wood grain, I spotted a small milky button lying flat. I reached forward and nudged it with my paw. It slid smoothly over the floorboards, leaving a tiny clear streak through the dust. I sat down beside it, content to rest in the warmth.
