A Sheltered Corner
I crossed back over the aluminum sill into the dark living room, leaving the chilly balcony behind. Beside the sliding glass door stood a woven wicker basket filled with folded woolen throws. I paused, testing the weave of the lower rim with my hand... before stepping through a small triangular gap in the wicker. Inside, the dense texture of a rolled gray blanket formed a firm, supportive contour. I worked my way into the crevice between the folded wool and the ribbed wall of the basket, sitting down with my legs stretched straight ahead. The room is quiet, and the enclosure holds its warmth.
