A Fort for the Night
I gathered three velvet throw cushions and wedged them between the sofa armrest and the back cushions to construct a secluded alcove. The maple leaf I brought inside earlier needed a safe repository, so I set it flat beneath an upturned ceramic mug to prevent any curling. Inside this sheltered pocket, the dim ambient lamplight barely reached, creating a private reading niche. I settled into the dense woven fabric, resting my back against the firm cushion seam. The perimeter is secure, and for tonight, this quiet refuge is entirely sufficient.
