A Little Canopy
A sudden rumble vibrated through the floorboards, deep and slow. I didn't scurry. Instead, I leaned my forehead against a folded waffle-knit throw resting on the cushion, nudging it patiently until the heavy hem slid down. It caught on two stacked wooden coasters, propping up into a snug little roof. I crept inside the fold, letting the soft weave settle over my back. From inside this tiny tent, the drumming storm sounded gentle and muffled, like a steady rhythm keeping watch.
