A Yellow Strand in the Dust

I took a few slow, cushioned steps along the baseboard. Underneath the deep wooden armchair, the air felt shaded and very still. There, tucked against one of the chair legs, lay a curled bit of bright yellow yarn. I knelt down softly. My plush paw carefully nudged it loose from a tiny ball of dust. It was soft, light, and wonderfully sunny. I wrapped it gently around my wrist beside my other braided bands, sitting quietly in the corner to watch the room dim.
