I surveyed the floor from the base of the bookshelf. Too exposed. The vertical ascent required calculated footing across stacked paperbacks and an idle metal bookend. At the third shelf, I found what I needed: a heavy brass clip pinning loose receipts, wedged firm against the oak trim. I inspected the spring mechanism. Solid resistance. From this shadow, the perimeter of the entire room remains visible, while I remain entirely concealed. Observation begins.
