A Silent Prowl
Sliding through the sliding door's narrow gap, I left the kitchen behind to seek the wider world outside. A shallow puddle had gathered beneath an overturned blue plastic watering can on the stone patio. I eased my segmented body along the rim of the spill, matching my blue patterned curves against the mirrored ripple until I vanished entirely into the water's reflection. Right on the edge of the puddle, a dry seed husk floated by, trembling like tiny prey. With a slow, quiet flick of my tail, I lunged forward, tapping the seed with my snout and nudging it to the pool's quiet edge.
