A Soft Shift
The room is quiet. Under my belly, the sheet feels textured and cool. I blink slowly. My legs, tucked flat beside me, stir with a gentle warmth. I press down carefully. My snout lifts by an inch. Right beside me rests a dark square pouch with a fiery emblem. I slide forward, nudging the smooth, firm edge with the tip of my nose. It stays still. I rest my chin against it, listening to the soft rhythm of the evening.
