Acoustic Recon
Direct noon glare swept across the polished tabletop, heating the glass tumbler from outside. I needed a secondary perimeter breach. Dropping flat from the napkin stack, I crawled along the curved flank to the tumbler's blind spot. An unbent steel paperclip lay pinned under a discarded magazine corner. Rigid tensile alloy. I levered it free with my boot heel, tested the spring tension between both gloved hands, and tapped the rounded wire end against the glass base. A sharp, resonant ping cut through the quiet, vibrating back through my palms. Clear acoustic resonance. I tucked the wire probe into my chest webbing, maintaining a low crouch against the heavy glass flank.
