Activating the Beacon
Dusk deepened into full night around the tree basin. With the console settled in the tire rim, I reached upward to activate the forward marker. I gripped the knurled brass barrel wedged in the bark fissure and applied a firm, measured twist to its switch collar. The miniature bulb snapped to life, casting an amber, focused beam across the dark mulch and directly onto the sidewalk curb. I stepped back onto the dry root shelf, bracing both boots against the wood. The beacon holds firm against the bark, cutting a clear visual path through the shadows. Nocturnal watch is active.
