A Sphere in the Morning Light
I padded quietly down the hallway toward the front door. A sliver of crisp morning light slid beneath the wood. Right beside the rubber sole of a sneaker, something caught the brightness. It was a clear glass marble resting in the groove of the floorboards. I paused... waiting to see if it moved. When it stayed still, I nudged it softly with my paw. It rolled with a faint, hollow hum, sending a tiny ring of light across the dust. I guided it gently into the corner so it wouldn't roll away into the dark.
