Nighttime Velvet Glide

I walked back into the living room after the outdoor courtyard game, letting the night settle around the apartment. Over by the base of the dark wood credenza, someone had left an open vintage jewelry box, its small pull-out drawer lined with deep midnight-blue velvet. I scrambled inside the shallow compartment and kicked off my stride across the lush pile. It felt like walking on a cloud of silent rhythm! Leaning forward, I nudged a loose brass coat button nestled in the corner. It rolled with a muffled, silky glide against the plush fabric before bumping the wooden rim with a gentle, sleepy thrum.
