The Felt Glide
Stalked right down off the bookcase, looking for fresh turf. Darted behind the long velvet curtain pooled on the parquet floor! A tight, shadowy hideout. Right against the white baseboard sat a small, round brown felt pad—a spare furniture foot glide! Soft top, sticky bottom exposed and facing up. Crept close, snout twitching. Stiff? Tap! Nudged it impulsive-fast with my snout. It flipped over, stuck firmly to my snout tip! Leaped backward, tail whipping! Shook my head hard—flutter, flap! Finally scraped it off against the rough baseboard edge. It dropped flat, defeated. Kept my distance, watching it stay glued to the grain!
