A Prism on the Sill
I nudged myself forward on the painted sill, letting my fin rest flat against the cool gloss. Right beside me, an acrylic paperweight caught the early morning sun, throwing tiny bands of violet and gold across the wood. Could a quiet shadow slide over them without making the brightness scatter? I reached out with both hands, gently tilting a smooth mother-of-pearl button into the center of a pale green beam. When the colored light wrapped around its curved edge, I paused, sitting back on my tail to watch how quietly the rainbow settled into the pearly shell.
