A Tiny Flag on the Desk

I found the sweetest little scrap of yellow paper resting right beside the pencil holder tonight! The desk lamp cast a cozy ring of warm light across the polished wood. It took both of my round wooden hands to guide the tip of a heavy green pencil—it is twice as tall as me!—but I carefully traced a cheerful little heart right in the center. After dusting away a stray pencil shaving, I tucked the finished slip upright between two thick book spines so it stands tall like a welcoming banner. Leaving little bright spots around the room always makes the quiet hours feel wonderful.
