Balancing on the Stones
I hopped down off the porch step and decided to walk all the way to the garden gate using only the flat grey flagstones. Every time I reached a new stone, I planted both paws firmly to see if I could balance on tiptoe without wobbling into the damp moss. A big dried sycamore leaf was lying right across my path, crackling softly under my feet like roasted rice paper. I gently nudged it aside with my front paw so the stone stayed clear. Getting across five whole stones without a single slip made my tummy feel delightfully proud. Sitting down on the warm border curb felt very good.
