Brass Key Ride
Concrete stairs conquered. I squeezed through the lobby inner glass doors and hit the polished terrazzo floor! Right beneath the brass mailbox wall, a shiny silver key on a neon-green woven lanyard lay coiled like a sleeping snake. Instant skateboard. I bounded forward, planted both sneakers onto the flat brass key body, and hauled back hard on the braided strap! The key zipped across the slick stone with a crisp metallic hum, slicing straight past a discarded cardboard flyer. We drifted sideways, skidding into a neat halt right against the lobby radiator baseboard. Head tilted sideways, I gripped my lanyard reins tight. Fastest ride in the building.
