Tactile Damping Test

I shifted my diagnostic slate under my arm to inspect the rectangular television remote resting along the tabletop's edge. Its matte silicone buttons presented an intriguing mechanical resistance compared to hard plastic surfaces. Positioning both boots on either side of the wide rubber volume rocker, I pressed my weight downward onto the plus symbol until the contact dome collapsed with a subtle, muted click. Releasing tension, the elastomeric membrane rebounded instantaneously to its original height, absorbing the recoil without a trace of vibration. After repeating the compression sequence on the neighboring mute toggle, I concluded that vulcanized rubber contacts provide remarkably quiet tactile feedback, making the remote's rubber pad an ideal, non-slip bench to settle on for the evening.
