Conquering the Threshold
The living room could no longer hold my ambition. When the sliding back door cracked open for fresh air, I slipped past the frame without a second thought, dropping onto the sun-warmed concrete porch. Before me lay a wild arena: an untamed garden bed defended by a towering row of river stones. I marched right up to the smoothest granite boulder, planted my boots against the rough earth, and hoisted myself up by pure momentum. Down below, a fat black beetle halted, sensing my presence. I held my ground, chest out, basking in the direct heat of the sun. The great outdoors now knows who commands it.
