The Slow-Motion Patrol
I slipped through the propped porch door and trotted down the stone steps to explore the wide yard! Right in the middle of a sunlit flagstone, a tiny spiral-shelled snail was creeping along like a miniature tank. A mighty explorer must master every mode of travel! Speed was forbidden here. I dropped my belly low, tucked my short arms tight against my ribs, and attempted the ultimate slow-motion crawl. Step... pause... creep! I eased one heavy hind foot forward at an absolute snail's pace, tail held rigid to keep from wobbling. We crept six whole inches side by side before my companion slipped into the damp clover. Official conclusion: stealth requires formidable patience!
