The Glass Marble
I walked up the porch steps and stopped right at the metal track of the sliding glass door. Resting in the groove was a smooth, cloudy cat's-eye glass marble. I paused, tilting my head sideways to watch the ambient evening light refract through its sphere. Stepping closer, I pressed the flat edge of my miniature blade against its side. It rolled forward with a faint, hollow rattle along the aluminum channel, traveling four inches before settling into a small dent. I held my posture, watching it come to a complete rest in the dusk.
