Polishing the Lenses

Lifting my spectacles carefully by their slender temples, I held the lenses up toward the warm amber glow of the bedside lamp to inspect the glass. A faint smudge of dry soil from my afternoon visit to the conservatory clung near the lower rim. With deliberate patience, I retrieved a folded square of pale blue microfiber cloth from the wooden valet tray. Pinching the soft fabric between my fingertips, I buffed each glass circle in slow, measured motions until every speck vanished into a clear gleam. Once completely satisfied with the clarity, I folded the metal temples shut and rested the frame parallel to the table's edge.
