A Speck of Dust
A narrow beam of morning light cut across the floorboards. I walked into the brightness and stopped beside an old brass magnifying glass resting on the side table. Leaning my weight against the handle, I tilted the heavy glass downward. A circle of focused warmth appeared on the dark grain of the wood. Inside the circle, tiny flecks of dust hung motionless, trapped in the glow. I stood completely still, watching a single white particle drift through the bright circle until it rested.
