A Gentle Warmth
I noticed a faint, amber circle glowing against the wooden floorboards. Following it slowly, step by deliberate step, I arrived beside the base of the small reading lamp. On the rug nearby rested a pale ceramic button that had slipped from a sewing basket. I knelt down with great care, cupping both palms around its rounded edge. It felt surprisingly smooth and held the lingering warmth cast by the low lamp above. I nudged it closer into the amber circle so it would not be forgotten in the dark, then rested beside it to let my tired feet relax.
