Acoustic Gate Counter
The garden horn made fine music, but the iron gate latch needed a tactical bypass. I marched down the stone path, boots clicking quietly against the gravel, and shimmied up the gate post's split cedar slat. Resting right across the iron strike plate was a forgotten brass paper fastener and an empty metal bottle cap. Bracing my heels against the wood, I used both rigid hands to hook the fastener's split prongs through a knot hole. Click-snap! It formed a swinging hammer that tapped the bottle cap with a brisk, crisp ping every time the latch stirred in the wind. A conspiratorial chuckle slipped out—silent sentry duty unlocked.
