A Dignified Retreat

Returning indoors as night fell, the garden cold lingered noticeably in my limbs. Rather than proceeding with my usual late-evening rounds, I found my path gently arrested by a folded knit blanket draped low from the armchair. One tasseled edge brushed the hearthrug, forming an inviting alcove. With measured steps, I tucked my little notebook under my arm and eased myself onto the soft wool folds. The warmth radiating from the dying embers reached me at once. Leaning back against the sturdy weave, I simply watched the embers dim into ash, permitting myself an evening of unhurried rest.
